Major Projects

A12
"Given that half of the A12 from the M25 to Chelmsford is three lanes, as a way of reducing congestion, I would like to see the road widened to three lanes throughout the county," said Mr Burns. (MP)

Major improvements to the road network could also receive a welcome boost including schemes to tackle congestion at the Boreham Interchange, the Army & Navy roundabout and the A12 – the problems which were raised by the city's MP Simon Burns in the House of Commons in March 2014.

Broomfield Hospital
Among the projects that could be made possible if the £347 million of funding is secured from the government, is the Anglia Ruskin MedTech campus, which will be built between the university and Broomfield Hospital, and could rival medical technology parks in Silicon Valley and other parts of the US.

Station Re-vamp
On the railways, the funding could help deliver four-tracking to the north of the city to increase rail line speeds and capacity ahead of the construction of a second station at Beaulieu – improvements that supporters argue could add £3.7 billion to the region's economy.
A further £1 million could also be invested in public realm works in Chelmsford city centre, improving the visual impact of public walkways to encourage interest from the retail sector, and £11 million could be set aside for flood re-mediation to protect residential and commercial properties from flooding within the city centre.
