Park and River Clean-up

Every week I spend an hour of more sitting in the park in Chelmsford. Just observing the comings and goings. Friends meeting and chatting. Lovers secret rendezvous. But just what does amaze me is the amount of rubbish scattered all over, or left on park tables.

Every morning around 9 am a team of 3 park gardeners pass me by picking up litter from messy people.

Bins everywhere.

Today in the press it informs the people of Chelmsford that not only some are chucking stuff in the parks but are clogging up the rivers with their unwanted cast off's.

60 bags of rubbish gathered in Chelmsford river clean-up

Volunteers have collected 60 bags of rubbish during the Autumn River Litter Clean-Up event in Chelmsford on Saturday.
The waste, including three footballs, a camping chair, four shopping trolleys and a road sign, was gathered from the river, pathways and surrounding areas of the River Chelmer from Wharf Road Car Park to Riverside Retail Park.
“We would like to thank all of the volunteers who helped on Saturday and I am delighted that so many enthusiastic volunteers of all ages turned up. The area around the river is now much cleaner.”
– CLLR JANETTE POTTER, CHELMSFORD CITY COUNCIL
Some of the rubbish was sorted for recycling including 15 bags of plastic bottles, 10 bags of cans and five bags of glass bottles.

Pick-up your rubbish and dis-posit it in one of the many bins designed for that purpose. They are all over the city and there are many in the park.
